Malaysian Agro-Based Products At Malaysia-Xi'an Halal Week

From Rohani Mohd Ibrahim XI'AN (CHINA), May 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysian agro-based products including durian-based products are being featured in the fourth edition of the Malaysia-Xi'an Halal Week at Muslim Street here. Durian ice-cream, durian coffee, durian 'kuih kapit', Musang King cookies and durian 'teh tarik' are available at the event which began Sunday and ends on May 31. Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob when launching the fair here today said from just 12 entrepreneurs in 2012 showcasing 60 products, this year there are 30 entrepreneurs with over 300 products. "More than 1,500 Malaysian agro-based products have penetrated the China market," said Ismail Sabri, who is on a nine-day working visit to promote halal food in China until this Sunday (May 31). Other agro-based products at the show include mango and tapioca chips, pre-mixed cocoa drinks and Tongkat Ali coffee. Xi'an Foreign Affairs Director Liang Wan Qing in her speech said the halal food event has grown over the four years from being just a food promotion to a platform for all-round friendly exchanges between Xi'an and Malaysia. "The food festival is a friendship bridge between the two peoples bringing about productive results in promoting bilateral cooperation in culture, tourism, economy, trade and people-to-people exchanges," she said. Muslim Street ia a tourist attraction in Xi'an, the capital city of Shaaxi province, and attracts more than 100,000 visitors daily. -- BERNAMA
