Malaysian Firms At CAEXPO Have Export Capabilities

From Nurul Jannah Kamaruddin NANNING (China), Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Some 90 per cent of the 126 Malaysian companies taking part in the 11th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) here have the capability to export and supply their products and services to overseas markets. Malaysia External Trade and Development Corporation (Matrade) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dzulkifli Mahmud said their capabilities would make it easier for the companies comprising mostly small and medium enterprises (SME) to penetrate the Chinese market. With a population of 1.36 billion, China is Matrade's key focus for companies wanting to penetrate foreign markets for the first time. "There are more companies that have successfully penetrated the Chinese market. This can be seen from the trade figures which have been rising every year. Last year, trade between the two countries hit RM318 billion (US$106 billion) and this is expected to reach US$149.62 billion (RM480 billion) by 2017," he said. (US$1 = RM3.20) Speaking to Malaysian journalists during the CAEXPO exhibition space preparation session, Dzulkifli said the participants were ready for the launch of the Malaysia pavilion by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Lee Chee Leong on Sept 15, 2014. Meanwhile, CAEXPO will be launched in full on September 16 and ends on September 19. This time, the Malaysia pavilion is divided into five clusters namely food and drinks (65 companies), healthcare (35), lifestyle (13), franchise (four) and other services (nine) to facilitate the companies to carry out trade. Out of the 126 companies, 40 per cent are participating in CAEXPO for the first time while 60 per cent are returning participants who aimed to expand their wings in China. The companies will occupy 147 exhibition areas. Besides that, 11 government agencies among them Sabah Department of Industrial Development and Research, Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council and Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) are also taking part in CAEXPO. Dzulkifli said the Malaysian firms' positive performance at CAEXPO has been very encouraging since the first time the event was held 10 years ago, hence he was confident the exhibitors would be able to generate higher sales of RM166.15 million. During CAEXPO 2013, Malaysian companies raked in sales of RM158.24 million from 138 firms. --BERNAMA
