Malaysian Ringgit Opens Marginally Higher Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian ringgit opened marginally higher against the US dollar on Thursday, lifted by firmer overnight crude oil prices. At 9.03 am, the ringgit improved against the greeback to 4.4160/4210 from 4.4170/4210 at 6pm on Wednesday. A dealer said news reports of lower US gasoline stockpil, along with lower-than-expected crude oil inventories increased oil prices. "This helped lift market sentiment and prompt demand for the local note," he said. Against a basket of major currencies, the ringgit also traded higher. It appreciated against the yen to 3.9630/9693 from 3.9778/9822 on Wednesday and improved against the British pound to 5.4900/4988 from 5.4908/4966 Wednesday. The local note also gained against the euro to 4.7476/7535 from 4.7659/7716 yesterday and advanced against the Singapore dollar to 3.1631/1683 from Wednesday's 3.1665/1705. -- BERNAMA
