Malaysians Must Play Positive Role Towards High Income Nation - Minister

PUTRAJAYA, June 27 (Bernama) -- Every Malaysian must play their role positively and not be distracted from the country's aspiration to be a high income nation by 2020, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar said. He said this was because Malaysians had the habit of spreading bad news without checking the authenticity. "Only forward (news) to other people if the news is beneficial. If we are not careful, it (the practice of spreading false news) will destroy the society that we have. "Issues of politics, let the politicians deal with it," he said during his talk titled '11th Malaysia Plan: What Does It Mean To The Men In The Street' at the Razak School of Government here Friday. Abdul Wahid said in order to double household income towards 2020, Malaysians need to acquire news skills and knowledge and start thinking to be employer through entrepreneurship rather than seeking to be employees. "Areas that would be improved throughout the 11th Malaysia Plan include the Greater Klang Valley public transport system where the number of public transport users in Klang Valley is expected to reach 40 per cent in 2020 from the present 17 per cent. "For Sabah and Sarawak, the Pan Borneo Highway would be one of the biggest transport infrastructure," he said. During the talk, Abdul Wahid also shared his personal experience of being in the government after spending so many years in the private sector. "It's a new life experience for me to be in the government, coming from the private sector. "I intend to go back into the private sector (after finishing my term in the government) and I have no intention to turn into politics," he added. -- BERNAMA
