Malaysia's Angkasa To Send 40 Cooperatives To ACOTEX 2016 In Jakarta

KOTA BAHARU (Kelantan, Malaysia), July 15 (Bernama) -- Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa or Malaysian National Co-Operative Movement) will be sending 40 cooperatives under its aegis to participate in the ASEAN Cooperative Organisation Trade Exhibition, Conference and Business Matching 2016 (ACOTEX 2016) in Jakarta, Indonesia. Angkasa President Abdul Fatah Abdullah said 400 representatives from the ASEAN member countries were expected to attend the event, which will be held from Aug 1-4 at the Bekasi Trade and Convention Centre. "ACOTEX was first held in Kuala Lumpur last year which we hosted. This time it will be held in Indonesia and we expect greater participation as there are are over 200,000 cooperatives in the republic, besides its huge population," he told reporters here Thursday. Abdul Fatah said as the Chairman of the ASEAN Cooperative Organisation, he believed that the local cooperatives now have the opportunity to expand the market for their products to a higher level. Apart from the ASEAN countries, he said China, India, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, Palestine and Iran were also expected to attend ACOTEX 2016. "Before, the cooperatives were only active at the domestic stage but now we want to take them to a higher level so that they have the chance to market their products abroad. "During the event, we will discuss on how to promote the cooperative's products to a wider market including Europe," he said. He said the ACOTEX was to facilitate the entry of goods produced by cooperatives to the market of any participating country and to provide tremendous business opportunities to the cooperatives. "The ACOTEX held in Kuala Lumpur last year was quite encouraging following which we have already delivered goods to Brunei and Singapore. "Now, we are in the process of sending goods, mostly food products under Angkasa's 100 Product Champion programme, to China and South Korea," he said. --BERNAMA
