Malaysia's International Investment Assets At RM1.67 Tln End-March

KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s international investment assets stood at RM1.67 trillion as of end-March 2018, the Statistics Department said. In a statement Thursday, it said direct investments and portfolio investments accounted for the largest shares of the total investment assets, with 36.3 per cent and 20 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, total liabilities registered RM1.74 trillion compared to RM1.71 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2017 (4Q17). As of 1Q18, direct investments abroad stood at RM509.1 billion (4Q17: RM525.2 billion) and foreign direct investments in Malaysia increased to RM587.7 billion (4Q17: RM570.3 billion). Portfolio investments showed net liabilities at RM332.3 billion (4Q17: RM328 billion), while other investments recorded net liabilities of RM79.5 billion. Meanwhile, Central Bank of Malaysia or Bank Negara Malaysia’s international reserves stood at RM416.3 billion (4Q17: RM414.6 billion) as of end-March 2018. -- BERNAMA
