Malaysia's Melaka Eyes Economic Cooperation With China's Tianjin

MELAKA (Malaysia), April 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's state of Melaka is eyeing economic cooperation with one of China's biggest cities, Tianjin, in various sectors, among them, construction, energy and heavy industries. Melaka Chief Minister, Idris Haron, said both cities were growing rapidly and the cooperation offered a chance for both to tap each other's business opportunities. "The cooperation also offers Melaka a chance to benefit frrom Tianjin's expertise, especially in developing the tourism sector. "Melaka and China have a long history of bilateral relations and with this cooperation we hope to foster a greater understanding between the people of both countries," he told reporters here Friday. Idris said Melaka and Tianjin were still working on the details of this economic cooperation which would bring in billions (Malaysian ringgit) to both cities. He said Melaka would also be an invaluable economic partner for Tianjin. "Beside tourism, halal food and green technology industries we also have a good high-technology industry like composite material for aeroplane. We have a lot to offer Tianjin," he said. Earlier, Idris receive a courtesy call from 21 delegates from Tianjin city lead by state-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commision of Tianjin Municipal People's Government Director Li Fu Ming. --BERNAMA
