Maldives, Thailand agree on promoting tourism

BANGKOK, January 4 (TNA) - Visiting Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha have agreed on promoting tourism-related businesses between the two countries through increasing direct flights. Deputy Government Spokesman Major General Werachon Sukhondhapatipak told journalists that the agreement, aimed at earning both countries more national income, was reached during bilateral talks between the two leaders at Bangkok's Government House on Monday. The deputy spokesman elaborated that both leaders agreed to exchange tourism experiences and to promote tourism-related businesses through increasing direct flights. The deputy spokesman said the two leaders also expressed his hope to cooperate in bilateral trade and investment during their discussion. According to the deputy spokesman, the Thai prime minister also briefed the visiting Maldives President on Thailand's updated political situation and asked him to provide support for Thai business operators investing in the South Asian island state by organising business matching events, aimed at boosting trade and investment between the two countries.
