Matrade To Promote Malaysian Products In Myanmar

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) is organising the Malaysia Services Exhibition (MSE) and Showcase Malaysia 2014 in Yangon, Myanmar from Oct 1-4, 2014. Its director of cross-border division, Amran Yem, said the third MSE, which has attracted 70 Malaysian companies, would help strengthen Malaysia's presence in the promising Myanmar market. "Our two earlier MSEs in Yangon had yielded encouraging results. In 2012, we recorded sales of US$25.99 million (RM83.98 million) sales and last year, US$31.74 million (RM102.6 million). This year we expected higher sales," he told a media briefing here Monday. Amran said this year's event would focus on construction and related services; building materials; education; franchises; business services; oil and gas; healthcare; and information and communication technology. "More than 450 business-matching meetings have been scheduled with Myanmar's companies," he said. Malaysian investment in Myanmar for 2013 amounted US$15.46 million (RM50 million), he said. Total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Myanmar from January to July 2014 stood at US$627.79 million (RM2.03 billion) compared to US$414.40 million (RM1.34 billion) for the same period of 2013. Malaysia's total exports to Myanmar for the first seven months of 2014 increased by 72.4 per cent to US$516.51 million (RM1.67 billion). --BERNAMA
