MDEC Expects #MYCYBERSALE To Garner RM200 Million In Sales

PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), Sept 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) expects its online '#MYCYBERSALE' to log US$48.75 million (RM200 million) in sales this year versus US$28.70 million (RM117.7 million) in 2015. Chief Executive Officer Yasmin Mahmood said '#MYCYBERSALE' is a five-day sales event conducted online via its website portal, www.mycybersale.my from Sept 26 to 30. She said MDEC was optimistic of achieving the target as the third year edition would draw 600 participating merchants. "It will see participation from major international brands, as well as over 150 Malaysian brands and 9,000 small and medium enterprises. "The event has also made its way into the Malaysia Book of Records for the most participating online merchants in an online sales event," she told a media briefing on the event here Friday. Participating merchants include big marketplaces such as Lazada, Lelong and 11street. This year's edition will also see for the very first time the participation of two mobile wallet providers, namely MOLWallet and MPAY Wallet to ease payment. Half-mile delivery providers have been selected to deliver goods to proxy outlet such as PostCo, Popbox and Inpost. Yasmin expects the event will receive strong consumer acceptance as it provides promotions, deals, discounts and convenience. "People look for deals, hence this effort really suits them. There will be up to 90 per cent discounts of some brands and some products offered are free," she said. She said travel, fashion and electronics were among the top category of consumer purchase. Since its introduction in 2014, #MYCYBERSALE has recorded a total of US$44.85 million (RM184 million) gross merchandising value. --BERNAMA
