Meeting held to reemphasise policies on human trafficking, IUU

BANGKOK, July 15 (TNA) -- A meeting on policy development to sustainably solve the problems of human trafficking and Illegal Ureported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU) was held in Bangkok. Head of the Labour and Human Trafficking in the Fishery Sector Working Group under the Command Centre for Combating Illegal Fishing, Adm Bongsuk Singnarong presided over the operational meeting on policy development to sustainably solve the problems of human trafficking and IUU earlier today. The admiral said the meeting was organised by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and other concerned agencies, including the Asian Research Centre for Migration and the Command Centre for Combating Illegal Fishing, with an objective for each relevant agency to inform of obstacles and limits to the solving of human trading and IUU problems. The problems and obstacles they would be analysed before the suggestions would be turned into sustainable policy to solve the problems in the long run. The meeting was attended by over 200 participants from both the public and private sector. Adm Bongsuk said that his agency's efforts to solve IUU problems have been successful so far, as the European Union (EU) has expressed its satisfaction on the relevant laws and regulations implemented by the Thailand government, as well as the its efforts to eradicate IUU problems from the country. Meanwhile, the suppression of illegal marine animal processing factories and the inspection of fishing vessels are still underway said Adm Bongsuk, adding that Thailand would have time until the end of the year to complete this process before the EU would evaluate the country's achievement for the year and announce the result next year. Adm Bongsuk said he believed that Thailand would be receiving a good news for certain. (TNA)
