MIDA Leads 7 Malaysian Firms To SEMICON Singapore 2014 Expo

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) will lead a Malaysian delegation to SEMICON Singapore 2014, an exposition for the semiconductor industry in Southeast Asia, from April 23-25 at Marina Bay Sands Expo. The delegation will include officials from MIDA among them its Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Phang Ah Tong, Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) and seven Malaysian companies. In a statement Friday, MIDA said the delegation will also include total solution providers for the semiconductor industry and manufacturers of specialised process machinery and equipment. Phang said: "The semiconductor industry has been the leading contributor in the performance of exports for the electrical and electronics (E&E) industry in Malaysia. "Exports of semiconductor devices amounted to US$34.29 billion (RM111.19 billion) or 47 per cent of the total E&E products exported in 2013." He said Malaysia is currently strengthening the industry further by targeting the front-end manufacturing such as wafer processing, wafer fabrication, integrated circuit (IC) design and fabless activities. "SEMICON Singapore will be a good platform for us to showcase the development of Malaysia's semiconductor ecosystem and attract more high-tech semiconductor companies," he said. The highlight of Malaysia's participation in SEMICON Singapore 2014 is a seminar entitled 'Completing the E&E Chain in Malaysia' on April 23. The session will feature presentations from MIDA, Matrade (Malaysia trade promotion agency) and the seven participating companies at the Malaysian pavilion, he said. Phang said MIDA will also organise business networking sessions for these companies. "We would like to encourage our potential investors to look at Malaysia from a wider regional perspective and consider the country as a strategic business partner within the framework of Asean," he said. "During the seminar, the participants will be able to gain first-hand information and insights on the challenges and opportunities in the semiconductor industry in Malaysia," Phang added. --BERNAMA
