MIDA Urges Malaysian Firms To Look Into African Infrastructure Sector

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has urged local companies to tap the African market and offer their expertise in the infrastructure sector. MIDA Deputy Chief Executive Officer Manufacturing & Services Development (II) N. Rajendran, said this market has became increasingly important with opportunities for investment and exports. He said this market would provide opportunities in infrastructure services such as road building, development of industrial areas and upgrading of facilities. "Malaysian companies should take this opportunity and broaden their businesses into the continent," he said. He said this after officiating the Third Capacity Building Programme on Investment Promotion for African Countries here Friday. The two-week programme from Sept 30, organised by MIDA, Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), involved 14 representatives from government agencies of various African countries. JICA Malaysia Chief Representative Kojiro Matsumoto, said the agency was active in organising these courses to assist African countries, subsequently, further strengthening cooperation and investments among these countries. "We organised about 10 courses per year. While we also have programmes for Malaysia and other ASEAN countries, half of our annual courses are catered to African countries," he said. He said the government-to-government programme was designed to mutually benefit both the African countries and Malaysia by providing a comprehensive outlook on the country's investment promotion framework and efforts. -- BERNAMA
