Minister insists on well-secured Prompt Pay e-services

BANGKOK, July 11 (TNA) - Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong affirms that "Prompt Pay", a newly-developed e-payment system in Thailand, is well-secured and does not violate clients' privacy. Apisak insisted on Monday that clients' privacy is maintained under the new e-payment system, as only their financial information is accessible to local financial institutes, not their entire information recorded in their ID cards. The minister told journalists that the Thai government will move forward with implementing the new e-system to provide conveniences for the public, including those receiving welfare benefits from the government through the banking transfer service. The minister stressed that the Bank of Thailand (BOT) and local financial institutes have well-established the security system for the Prompt Pay services. Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Finance Somchai Sajjapongse said that people are welcome to voluntarily use the Prompt Pay e-system, in which a contracted firm is authorised to record clients' ID numbers or mobile phone numbers linked with their bank accounts specified by them.
