Minister:Brexit has no serious impacts on Thailand

BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) - In response to last week's decision by Britain to leave the European Union (EU), Thai Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong says that Thailand should be affected slightly. Apisak told journalists on June 29 that most of the negative impacts from Brexit on Thailand could be seen from investors who are worried on the uncertain climate and unload their risk assets. Apisak stressed that Thai commercial banks have been well-prepared for Brexit impacts and Thailand now mainly relies on domestic investment and consumption amid a drop in exports, leading to the continually-national economic expansion. According to the minister, the Thai economy would further grow if business operators increased their investment as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Bangkok-based University of Thai Chamber of Commerce's Economic and Business Forecast Centre predicted that Thailand’s gross domestic product (GDP) should drop by about 0.32 per cent, equivalent to about 44.85 billion baht in terms of value, this year due to Brexit impacts.
