Mitsubishi does not plan to cease operations in Russia

TOKYO, July 27. /TASS/. Japan’s automotive manufacturer Mitsubishi will not cease operations in Russia, the corporation’s press service told TASS on Monday. "We don’t have plans to cease production in Russia yet. However, against the backdrop of general decline in automobile sales in Russia, we will continue watching the situation on the market and performance of our company," the press service said. The spokesperson did not rule out temporarily halting production at a Mitsubishi plant in Kaluga. "In April and May, production [at the Kaluga plant] was halted twice, and then resumed. It should not be ruled out that similar measures will be taken at the plant in the future to adjust production [to changing conditions]," the press service noted. PSMA Rus is a joint plant of Mitsubishi Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen that has been operating in Kaluga since 2010. It produces 125,000 cars per year, including Citroen C4, Peugeot 408, Mitsubishi Outlander 2016 and Pajero Sport. Mitsubishi confirmed earlier today that it will close its plant in Illinois and cease operations in the United States, citing low sales in North America as the main reason. Read more
