Mobile data usage triples during Songkran: dtac

BANGKOK, April 15 (TNA) – The amount of internet usage on mobile phones rose two to three times as much on the first day of 2017 Songkran Festival in Thailand, Prathet Tankuranun, chief technology officer at Total Access Communication PCL, or dtac, said. Mr Prathet said the mobile data usage on April 13 increased significantly at key tourist spots, bus terminuses, and on main roads. He added that Facebook proved to be the most popular mobile app, followed by LINE and Instagram. Five highest internet using provinces were Bangkok and its vicinity, Chon Buri, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, and Chachoengsao, he noted. Mr Prathet clarified that many Thais spent Songkran holidays for leisure trips to the provinces across the country. They normally travelled to different places, including cultural tourist spots in the North and Northeast, and beaches and islands in the East and South. The country’s second largest mobile operator has prepared staffs to work and ensure its network is stable around the clock. Also, customers can reach the dtac call center service for emergency assistance by dialing 1678. (TNA)
