More rooms for Thai exports to emerging markets

BANGKOK, May 2 (TNA) - The Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand) says that there are much more rooms for Thai exports to emerging potential markets. EXIM Thailand President Pisit Serewiwattana voiced the suggestion in Bangkok on Thursday, indicating that such the emerging potential markets include neighboring Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam, known as the CLMV group, in the ASEAN Community (AC), as well as India in South Asia and those in Africa. Pisit advised that there are especially much more rooms for Thai exports of frozen fresh fruits, frozen food, canned seafood to the emerging markets, reasoning that the economies of the CLMV group, where resources remain abundant, have particularly kept growing at high rates with less impacts from a global economic slowdown currently and there are high purchasing power among their workforces. Besides, Thai products are popular in the CLMV economies because consumers there view them as the premium goods, while Thailand maintains other comparative advantages, including the country's strategic location and similar cultures with the neighboring countries. The EXIM Thailand president told journalists that there are also more rooms for Thai exports of such capital goods as farm machines to the CLMV group, as well as construction and chemical products and other consumer goods.
