More "Tuk Tuk" taxis in Bangkok to serve int'l visitors

BANGKOK, December 2 (TNA) - The Department of Land Transport, under the Thai Ministry of Transport, has set a period, from December 1-30, 2015, for the registration of more "Tuk Tuk" taxis in Bangkok to serve international visitors. The department's director-general, Sanit Promwong, told journalists on December 1 that the additional registration is aimed to boost the Thai tourism because the unique Thai "Tuk Tuk" taxis have interested international visitors. Apart from tourism promotion, Sanit said, the new-round registration of "Tuk Tuk" taxis also helps drivers to possess their own public transport vehicles and facilitates his department to better regulate them and control the safety of their service. Sanit stated that the list of drivers for the new-round registration of "Tuk Tuk" taxis will be officially announced on January 14, 2016, noting if there are more applicants than the 565 quota, his department will organize draws to meet the targeted registrants. According to the senior official, licensees must then have their "Tuk Tuk" taxis registered with his department within July 17, 2016. (TNA)
