M'sia Bags Medical Travel Award For 2nd Year In A Row

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia was proclaimed 'Medical Travel Destination of the Year' at the International Medical Travel Journal (IMTJ) Medical Travel Awards 2016 held in Madrid, Spain on May 24. Malaysia also won the same award at last year's awards ceremony, the Malaysian Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) said in a statement here Wednesday. MHTC said Malaysia won almost half of the awards given out at the ceremony, which was hosted in conjunction with the IMTJ Medical Travel Summit taking place in Madrid on May 24-26. The country's hospitals won several awards, including International Hospital of the Year (Sunway Medical Centre), International Dental Clinic (Imperial Dental Specialist Centre) as well as International Fertility Clinic (TMC Fertility Centre). "IMTJ is pleased to confer these awards on MHTC and Malaysian private hospitals, in recognition of the healthcare services they provide, par excellence, to health seekers all around the world. "Malaysian healthcare is, without a doubt, a rising force in the world of global healthcare," the statement said, citing comments by Keith Pollard, Chief Editor of IMTJ and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Intuition Communications Ltd, IMTJ’s parent company. MHTC CEO Sherene Azli said the award has reinforced the country's reputation as a player in the medical tourism industry. "Healthcare in Malaysia is highly accessible, competitively affordable and of world-class quality. Patient safety and care is paramount and assured by the high standards mandated by stringent government regulations. "We are proud that the world is taking increasing notice of the high-value healthcare services Malaysia is able to deliver," she said. -- BERNAMA
