M'sian Entrepreneurs Should Increase Particiaption In Thai F&B Industry

By Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa BANGKOK, May 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysian entrepreneurs should increase their participation in Thailand's food and beverage (F&B) industry which has a potential market value of 150 trillion baht (100 baht=US$2.80), annually. The Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Trade Commissioner in Bangkok Niqman Rafaee Mohd Sahar said Malaysia's F&B exports to Thailand rose 14.9 per cent to US$250.95 million (RM1.02 billion) in 2015. "In the first quarter of this year, Malaysia's F&B exports to Thailand expanded 2.8 per cent compared with the same period, previously," he told Bernama after attending a market acceleration programme and business meeting with key importers here Friday. The programme was held in conjunction with THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2016, one of the world's largest F&B exhibitions. Niqman Rafaee also said emphasis should be given to 'ready-to-eat' food products which was rising in popularity among the Thais. "This sub-segment is growing at 25 per cent annually, in line with the growing Thai middle-class population," he said. Niqman Rafaee also said Thailand had the potential to become the gateway to the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) markets. "Malaysian entrepreneurs should take advantage of their collaboration with their Thai counterparts who have a strong presence in the CLMV markets," he said. On THAIFEX 2016, he said 1,800 companies, including 70 from Malaysia, from 70 countries were participating in the five-day event. -- BERNAMA
