National Cosmetics Turnover Predicted To Rise 14 Pct In 2013

Jakarta, Oct 16 (ANTARA) - National cosmetics turnover is predicated to rise by 15 percent next year from Rp9.76 trillion this year due to increasing people`s buying power, an association chief said. "National cosmetics turnover is projected to reach Rp11.2 trillion in 2013 driven by increasing demand from the middle class," the president of the Association of Indonesia Cosmetics Manufacturers (Perkosmi), Nuning S Barwa, said here on Tuesday. She said many men now also used cosmetic and skin treatment products. "The development of the local market is good. Before men were never interested in buying skin treatment products but their interest in the products is now increasing," she said. The cosmetics market in Indonesia is still wide open and therefore a lot of imported products are entering the country, she said. She said domestic producers must be able to meet the increasing demand for the products. "Imported products could flood into the domestic market following harmonization in ASEAN. Under the system cosmetics producers must notify the governments of the ASEAN countries before they would market their products in those countries," she said. She said the system would simplify procedures enabling imported products to enter easily. "Foreign cosmetics producers have seen the country as a potential market in view of the current crisis in Europe and the US," she said. Sales of imported cosmetics products in the country are expected to rise by 30 percent until the end of this year from Rp1.87 trillion last year. "This year sales of imported cosmetics products are expected to reach Rp2.44 trillion," Industry Minister MS Hidayat said.
