New dual-track train project to be developed in Thai East

BANGKOK, May 5 (TNA) - Thailand plans to develop a new dual-track train project, connecting three major deep seaports in the eastern region, including Laem Chabang Deep Seaport,Sattahip Deep Seaport and the Map Ta Phut Deep Seaport. A committee tasked with the development and management of the government-supported Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), chaired by Thai Industry Ministry Uttama Savanayana, endorsed the plan at its meeting in Bangkok on May 4. The committee resolved to assign the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT), the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) and the Sattahip Commercial Port (SCP) to jointly work out a master plan on the dual-track train project, aimed to materialize the seamless logistics system in the Thai East. The relevant agencies were set to carry out the master plan within a month and to submit it before the EEC committee's next meeting on June 16, to be chaired by Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha. The EEC committee also assigned SRT and PAT to jointly study on an improvement of cargo train stations at the Laem Chabang Seaport Project, Phase 3, by utilizing an automatic operational system in order to enhance capacity and bring about a maximum benefit to the logistics system in the Thai East. Besides, the committee endorsed a plan on the establishment of a new special digital innovative economic zone and the Thai Ministry of Digital Economy and Society was assigned to conduct a feasibility study of the plan, covering environmental and health impact assessment reports, before submitting the study to the EEC panel for further consideration at its next meetings.
