New fund to be set up to finance Thailand's new mega-projects

BANGKOK, September 28 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Finance, plans to set up a new fund to finance new state mega-investment projects. Thai Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong assured at a seminar on the Thai money market, held in Bangkok on Monday, that his ministry will not sell its shares in three state enterprises, including PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, and TMB Bank, but will, instead, set up a new fund to pay for new state mega-investment projects. Apisak elaborated that his ministry will set up a single and large infrastructure fund for the purpose and it is studying the amount and returns of the planned fund. The finance minister also confirmed that the Thai government will establish a state enterprise corporation to supervise large-sized state enterprises in order to boost their efficiency and profits and improve their management. The minister stressed that there will not be a tax amnesty for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and his ministry's Revenue Department will hand out accounting software to local SMEs to ensure the accuracy of their accounts so that they will not be fined for tax evasion.
