No cooperation ban for US automakers: Iranian official

TEHRAN, Apr. 26 (MNA) – Iran Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, while noting that Iran has set no prohibition for cooperation of American car industries, announced the conditions of the cooperation. Mohsen Salehi Nia told Mehr News correspondent that the ministry is the policy-making body of the section and Iranian car industries have to follow the principles set by the organization in cooperating with American companies. Noting that there was no ban on cooperation between Iranian and American auto industries, Salehi Nia said “the cooperation, however, has to consider the principles of joint cooperation, establishing and development of industrial units, investment, forming platforms and its development plan, deepening domestic production and using capabilities of internal part suppliers.” “Regarding the terms and the defined frame, Iranian car companies are permitted to cooperate with companies all over the world,” added he. Earlier, Mohammad Reza Najafi Manesh as a member of Iran car industry policy-making council has announced American firms’ willingness to take part in Iran car industry, saying “any participation and cooperation leading to promotion and progress of industry is welcomed, however the contracts have to be in direction of joint investment and export.” Najafi Manesh also has referred to some principles in this regard including that the contracts have to consider national interests and joint production as well as exporting part of the products. He has stressed “American companies have declared readiness and enthusiasm to participate in Iran car market and industry and they are waiting for the Lausanne statement to realize as an agreement, yet, some consultations have been made already the details of which will be announced in proper time.”
