Offer Attractive Rates to Investors, Malaysia's SESB Urged

PENAMPANG (Sabah, Malaysia), Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s International Trade and Industry Minister Darell Leiking has urged utility company Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to offer attractive rates to large companies interested in investing in the state. He said investors are picky about costs and their concern with power supply in Sabah is not just about its consistency but also its high cost. “Power is a problem in Sabah (east Malaysian state Sabah). But I am certain that SESB will take up its corporate social responsibility towards Sabah by considering giving big investors opportunities to create employment in the state by reducing electricity tariffs,” he told reporters after launching a career and education carnival here Saturday. The minister said a South Korean company is interested in setting up a business in Sabah that would bring in billions of ringgit (Malaysia’s currency) and create 700-800 jobs for Sabah locals. However, he said the company hopes the government could do more by lowering electricity tariffs to enable it to invest in the state. -- BERNAMA
