Once situation in Syria becomes stable Turkish-Syrian trade relations would move forward, says Minister Ergun

ISTANBUL (A.A) - December 6, 2011 - Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Nihat Ergun said Tuesday that "commercial relations between Turkey and Syria might have slowed down recently but once the situation in Syria became stable, Turkish-Syrian trade relations would move forward. Answering questions of the press corps after the inauguration of the Turkish-Arab Industrial Cooperation Conference in Istanbul, Ergun said that "countries going through political changes experienced problems in other fields as well. It was the case in Libya. We have witnessed that contractors and their workers are going back to Libya once things became stable in that country". In response to a question on the closed border gates at the Turkish-Syrian border, Ergun said that the border gate at the Turkish-Iraqi border was on the agenda and maritime transportation was also an other option. If the Turkish transportation sector experiences problems, we would then put the issue on the table and evaluate the alternatives, he said.
