Over 180 foreign firms set up in Thailand during first-half 2014

BANGKOK, June 20 (TNA) - A total of 186 foreign firms with their combined investment of about 7.4 billion baht have been allowed to run their businesses in Thailand during the first six months of this year. Pongpan Jirawiriyapan, Director-General of the Department of Business Development, under the Thai Ministry of Commerc, told reporters of the information on Friday, saying that the newly-established foreign firms will employ about 1,990 Thais. Pongpan noted that, compared to the corresponding period of 2013, the number of foreign companies allowed to be set up in Thailand increased by 5 per cent. According to the senior official, the total investment fund of the newly-set up foreign businesses in Thailand was, however, a 30 per cent decline from the same period of last year. (TNA)
