Persian Gulf Special Zone To Get Its Needed Pelletized Steel

Bandar Abbas, Hormuzgan Prov., Nov 11, IRNA – Managing Director of the Persian Gulf Economic, Mining and Metal Industries Special Zone said on Monday that with the accomplishment of projects underway and production of 13 million tons of pelletized steel needs of steel manufacturers of the zone will be addressed. Speaking to IRNA, Masoud Hendian referred to Maadkoush Pelletizing Complex with an annual capacity of five million tons and South Kaveh Steel Company with a capacity of eight million tons, totally 13 million tons, as projects underway in the zone. He further remarked that first phases of Maadkoush Pelletizing Complex with an annual capacity of two and a half million tons and Kaveh Company with five million tons, totally seven and a half million tons, will start operation sooner. He put the present capacity of steel factories in the zone at 5.7 million tons annually, adding that with regard to the technologies applied in these units based on revival of pelletized steel for the production of sponge iron and the point that production of each ton of steel according to these methods requires 1600 kg of pelletized steel, production of this amount of pelletized steel can address present demands. Hendian said that with regard to the annual steel production of 10 million tons as part of the long-term targets of the zone the required pelletized steel of the zone will reach more than 16 million tons which due to the welcome of investors for construction of new steel producing units, demand for pelletized steel will grow in the zone. It should be noted that due to the enforcement of certain policies in the past decade some of the mining complexes stationed in regions with low water facilities which supplied the required raw materials demanded by steel industry in the country such as concentrated and pelletized steel turned to producing steel by founding small factories. As an example reference can be made to Gol Gohar iron ore in Sirjan as one of the areas for the production of concentrated and pelletized steel which through massive investment has embarked on establishing steel factories and its required water is maintained from the Persian Gulf coastal areas through a 300-km pipeline. Remarks by Hendian with regard to production of pelletized steel can bring hope to investment companies in the zone as these companies, including Hormuzgan Steel, are investors in this domain. The Persian Gulf Economic, Mining and Metal Industries Special Zone with its important economic potentials and proper investment opportunities is located 13 km west of Bandar Abbas city, capital of Hormuzgan Province./end
