Phuket Airport’s New Terminal Almost Complete

PHUKET, Feb 14 (TNA) - A first technical flight at a new terminal for passengers of international routes at Phuket international airport in the South of Thailand was conducted Sunday and upon completion the airport would become the ‘Gateway to the Andaman’, said Nitinai Sirismatthakarn, president of Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd. (AoT). Mr. Nitinai said that the new terminal would help boost the capacity of passengers at the airport to almost double, or from 6.5 million to 12.5 million passengers annually. Currently, Phuket international airport provides services to about 250 commercial aircraft daily of which 53 airlines are from international routes. Due to the rising traffic, the airport has decided to construct the new terminal for passengers. The whole technical systems will be tested for 60 days, starting from Sunday, while a working committee has been appointed to oversee that there is nothing wrong with the system, said Mr. Nitinai. The new terminal for passengers of oversea routes at the airport will be officially open this June 1, he added.(TNA)
