Place More Malaysian Agriculture Products In International Airports - Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- More Malaysian agriculture products should be sold at the international airports in Malaysia, including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek. He said international airports served as the national entry and exit for the foreign tourists, thus it should be used to exhibit products of local farmers. "Most of the products or brands sold at the international airports are imported and do not reflect the country's image. Items sold at the airports will indicate the advantages that a country has. "If we only sell imported products, it will show the country's weaknesses for not able to produce its own products. I am so proud of our agricultural products and these should be introduced to the tourists," he said during the ministry's monthly gathering, here, Thursday. Also present was his deputy, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman. Ahmad Shabery said discussions between the ministry and the Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad were held over three months ago and they were currently in the process of identifying suitable products to be sold at the KLIA and klia2. Earlier, Shabery launched the 2016-2020 Farmers' Organisation Authority corporate plan and the Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (TEKUN) new logo. He also urged the ministry's officers to think corporate by focusing on wealth development and putting efforts to place the local farmers' associations on par with their foreign counterparts. --BERNAMA
