Positive results expected from Thai DPM overseas trips

BANGKOK, March 14 (TNA) - Thai Industry Minister Atchaka Sribunruang has foreseen new flows of investment from Japan, the United States, Russia and Belarus after Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak's recent visits to the countries. Recalling the trips to the countries by Deputy Premier Somkid, who oversees economic affairs and led Thai business delegates to meet with local chief executive officers (CEOs) over the past month, Atchaka told journalists on March 13 that the trips were aimed at wooing foreign investment from targeted large companies. Atchaka explained that the Thai delegation met CEOs of the companies that have already invested in Thailand, planned to increase their investment or located in emerging markets. According to the industry minister, the Thai delegation informed the targeted CEOs of promotional privileges in 10 specific clusters of industries in Thailand, while participating Thai business operators also had opportunities to meet their potential foreign partners on the same occasion. The industry minister said that her ministry, the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) and the private sector are working together to build up confidence and attract more foreign investors to the country. The minister expressed her confidence that more foreign investment projects would seek promotional privileges for their investment in the 10 Thai industrial clusters from this month onward. (TNA)
