President Departs For SCO Summit In Tajikistan

Astana, Sept 10, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday morning departed Astana for Dushanbe to attend the 14th summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). President Rouhani arrived in Astana on Monday on the first leg of his five-day regional tour. He is accompanied by a high-ranking political and economic delegation, including a number of cabinet members. It was the first visit to Kazakhstan of President Rouhani since he took office in August 2013. His visit to Kazakhstan resulted in the signing of a number of cooperation agreements in various fields including transportation and trade. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization or SCO is a Eurasian inter-governmental organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The Organization currently has six full members. Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, and India are observer states and SCO’s dialogue partners include Belarus, Sri Lanka, and Turkey./end
