President: Heydar Aliyev’s oil strategy lies at the heart of Azerbaijan’s increasing role in the world

Baku, November 9, AZERTAC “Today Azerbaijan is globally known as a country producing oil and gas. Our role in the world, our strength is increasing and it is Heydar Aliyev’s oil strategy that lies at the heart of this,” President Ilham Aliyev has told a ceremony celebrating two billion tons of oil production in Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev noted that the 1990s marked the time when many historical events in oil industry took place: “I should emphasize the launch of Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline. National leader Heydar Aliyev personally laid the foundation of the pipe and we put it into service in 2006. In 2007, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline was put into operation, which is today a major infrastructure project in our gas export. Through this pipeline we are executing the Southern Caucasus and Southern Gas Corridor projects.” The head of state noted that state-of-the-art drilling rigs and platforms are being constructed in Baku. “All the necessary construction works for Shahdeniz-2 have been done in Azerbaijan. Thousands, may be tens of thousands of Azerbaijani citizens have been involved in these activities. The Sangachal terminal, which is the world’s largest oil and gas terminal, is our great asset,” added President Ilham Aliyev.
