President Putin calls to prevent revision of global trade rules by individual nations

UNITED NATIONS, September 28. /TASS/. The revision of global trade rules by individual nations should be prevented, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in the statement at the 70th UN General Assembly session in New York on Monday. "Probably, there is a desire to present to all of us the fact that rules of the game were rewritten and revised again to benefit the few, without involvement of the WTO. This may result in a complete imbalance of the system and fracturing of the global economic space," the Russian President said. This is "one more symptom of growing economic egoism," Putin said. "Some nations embarked on the path of private, exclusive economic associations, and negotiations to create them are held behind the scenes, being a secret both for their own citizens, business circles and the public, and for other nations. Other states, whose interests may be affected, are not informed about anything as well," Putin said. Identified problems affect interests of all countries and influence on prospects of the whole global economy, the Russian President said. The proposal is made to discuss these problems in format of the United Nations, the WTO and the G20, Putin said. Russia suggests "integration of integrations" based on universal and transparent principles of the global trade, he added. Putin referred to plans of Russia and China to link the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Silk Road Economic Belt as an example. Russia regards harmonization of integration processes within the framework of the EAEU and the European Union as highly promising, Putin said. Read more
