Private sector to assist Thai agriculturists nationwide

BANGKOK, October 19 (TNA) - The Board of Trade of Thailand plans to assist agriculturists throughout the country through nearly 4,000 agricultural cooperatives by helping developing their products and exploring buying markets. Issara Wongkusolkit, Chairman of the Board of Trade, who is also Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, told journalists on Tuesday that the Board of Trade would first help 100 agricultural cooperatives nationwide in 2016 and those joining the programme would see their income increase by at least 30 per cent. Issara said recent drought in Thailand plus declining global farm products prices have forced the Board of Trade to step in. On raising the product quality, Issara noted that the Board of Trade would fix the standard quality to enable Thai agriculturists to produce products which meet international standards by using an information technology (IT) to help develop essential database.
