Probe on fake GT200 bomb detectors on progress

BANGKOK, June 23 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam says that he will invite parties involving in the procurement of bogus GT200 bomb detectors from Britain for discussions and a study of a British court ruling to see whether a compensation could be sought for Thailand. Dr. Wissanu told journalists on Thursday that the concerned parties include the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and private firms. Dr. Wissanu revealed that he is awaiting the British court's written verdict on the case for the study to see whether Thailand could seek any compensation from the British manufacturer and whether it is possible to file any fresh charge against the producing firm. "It is expected that the Office of the Attorney General would demand for the compensation, if any, while NACC is probing whether there were irregularities involved in Thailand's past procurement of GT200 bomb detectors", the deputy premier stated. Last week, the British court ruled to seize assets, worth 7.9 million pounds (375 million baht), from James McCormick, who began serving a 10-year jail term in 2013 for producing the GT200 bomb detecting devices and the Alpha 6 drug detectors that he had sold to governments around the world.
