Putin pleased with trade and economic relations with South Korea

PARIS, November 30 /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was pleased with Russia’s trade and economic ties with South Korea. "The economic ties between the two countries are developing well on the whole," Putin told South Korean President Pak Geun-hye after the plenary session of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference on Monday. Putin added he would like to discuss the situation on the Korean peninsula with his South Korean counterpart. He presented condolences to Pak Geun-hye over the death of South Korean former president Kim Young-sam on November 22. For her part, Pak Geun-hye presented condolences to Putin over the A321 plane crash in Egypt prior to their meeting. "Again, I would like to present my profound condolences over a terror attack - the crash of the Russian airliner (A321 in Egypt) which claimed the lives of many Russians," she said. According to Pak Geun-hye, Moscow and Seoul managed to achieve good economic indicators despite fluctuations on the global market. That, she believed, became possible thanks to Russia’s new eastern policy and the new Eurasian vision (of the Republic of Korea). "We have a common goal. That is why we achieved good results," the South Korean leader said. She emphasized that in 2014 the two countries saw record high volumes of reciprocal trade and a record number of humanitarian contacts. "It is very important for us to use our potential in spheres where we have common interest for specifying our joint projects more actively," Pak Geun-hye said adding representatives of the two countries had agreed to step up bilateral interaction at a meeting of the inter-governmental commission held in Seoul in October.
