Qatar Foreign Merchandise Trade Surplus QR 4.8 Billion in April

Doha, May 28 (QNA) - The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics has released preliminary figures of the value of exports of domestic goods, re-exports, and imports for April 2016. The analysis of the data for April 2016, shows that the total exports of goods (including exports of goods of domestic origin and re-exports) amounted to around QR 15.0 billion, showing a decrease of 37.8% compared to April 2015. And decreased by 9.7% compared to March 2016. On other hand, the imports of goods in April 2016 amounted to around QR 10.2 billion, showing a decrease of 3.3% over April 2015. However, on a month on month (M-o-M) basis the imports decreased by 5.6%. In April 2016, the foreign merchandise trade balance, which represents the difference between total exports and imports, showed a surplus of QR 4.8 billion almost, i.e. a decrease of about QR 8.8 billion or 64.7% compared to April 2015. And decreased by nearly QR1.0 billion or 17.3% compared to March 2016. The year on year (April 2016 to April 2015) decrease in total exports was mainly due to lower exports of Petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons (LNG, condensates, propane, butane, etc.) reaching 8.6 billion approximately in April 2016, i.e. a decrease of 45.1%, Petroleum oils & oils from bituminous minerals (crude) reaching QR 2.3 billion nearly, decreased by 37.9%, as well as the Petroleum oils & oils from bituminous minerals (not crude) reaching QR 0.7 billion, decreased by 25.5%. In April 2016, Japan was at the top of the countries of destination of Qatars exports with close to QR 3.2 billion, a share of 21.1% of total exports, followed by South Korea with almost QR 2.1 billion and a share of 13.9%, India with about QR 1.6 billion, a share of 10.9%. During the month, Motor cars & other passenger vehicles., was at the top of the imported group of commodities, with QR 0.8 billion, showing a decrease of 29.4% compared to April 2015. In second place was Electrical Apparatus For Telephone Sets Etc.; Parts Thereof. with QR 0.4 billion, showing an increase by 45.1%, and in third place was Parts of aircraft and helicopters etc. with QR 0.3 billion, decreased of 62.6%. In April 2016, China was the leading country of origin of Qatars imports with about QR 1.2 billion, a share of 12.2% of the imports, followed by Germany with QR 1.2 billion almost, a share of 11.4%, and United States of America with a little above QR 1.2 billion, a share of 11.3%.
