Qatar International Chamber of Commerce Launches Arbitration Seminars

Doha, January 15 (QNA) - Qatar's International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) announced today that it will launch a series of seminars in the field of arbitration. The first seminar in this series is "Drafting Arbitration Clauses" and will be held on January 24th, and presented by lawyers from Squire Patton Boggs international commercial law firm. In a statement released by the international chamber said that the mentioned series are part of the arbitration commission's program of alternative methods to settle dispute in the chamber this year, to foster the development of trade and investment between Qatar and the international business community. The series is not only aimed at arbitration practitioners, but intended to help inform professionals across the entire Qatari community from businesses, governmental agencies and public and private sectors to students. ICC Chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohammed Al Thani the said that Qatar's ICC continuously works on paving the path for sustainable economic development in Qatar which would be achieved by launching the arbitration seminars and hosting a number of legal experts to share their expertise with the Qatari society. He added that strengthening the role of arbitration in Qatar will provide an effective alternative dispute settlement mechanism, which will help in accelerating the development of local companies and encourage international investment and trade. Managing Partner of Squire Patton Boggs Doha office Charbel Maakaron the confirmed the importance of such seminars, adding that it will benefit the legal community in the country through deepening the understanding of the arbitration process and alternative dispute settlement mechanisms. The seminars are presented by Commission members and distinguished colleagues, and will address the changes and developments in foreign and domestic arbitration in Qatar, how Qatari professionals might prepare for arbitration, and discussion of how arbitration in Qatar links to the international business community and investments.
