Qatar to Invest QR664 Billion in Infra-Structure, HE Minister of Economy Says

Doha, April 15 (QNA) - HE Minister of Economy and Trade Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani that the State of Qatar will invest around QR664 billion in infra-structure in the next five years. His Excellency added that such investments will extend beyond oil and gas projects. HE the Minister said there were 432 construction companies operating in the State of Qatar with an investment worth $10.4 billion. Those companies employ roughly 37,000 people, HE the Minister added, stressing meantime the important role the construction sector is playing as the country prepares to host the 2022 World Cup. His Excellency also praised the state for being able to lay the foundations of sustainable economic development, a main component of Qatar National Vision 2030. HE the Minister added that a wise management of Qatari economy will require increasing competition and attract more investment to stimulate growth. HE the Minister said that the outlook for the construction sector in Qatar was very promising, particularly because construction projects play an important part in the Gulf region in general. HE the Minister Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, who was speaking at the GCC and Yemen Building Materials Manufacturers Forum, said that the forum will pose a number of important questions to participants regarding increasing demand in the GCC area and the move towards green buildings. His Excellency expressed his hope that the outcomes of the forum will boost cooperation and partnership between building materials manufacturers in the region. HE the Minister added that, in light of the inclination worldwide to use more green buildings, there should be more incentives for producers to incorporate green buildings, in line with the aspiration to protect the environment and achieve sustainable growth.
