Qatar Participates in 54th GCC Commercial Cooperation Committee

Doha, November 15 (QNA) - The State of Qatar participated today in the 54th meeting of the GCC Commercial Cooperation Committee, which was held at the GCC's headquarters in Al Riyadh with GCC ministers of commerce taking part. The ministers discussed a number of issues of joint interest. HE Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani represented Qatar in the meeting. The ministers also discussed the recommendations of the preparatory meeting. The most prominent issue was discussing a unified law regulating competition in the GCC. Other laws included the wholesale purchase of imported food products, the collective revision of commerce policy by all GCC members. The meeting also will look to study the recommendations of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the proposal of the State of Qatar to have the GCC join WTO's net food-importing countries. The committee also discussed a memo presented by the general secretariat on a guide for the procedures and economic activities in the GCC. Additionally, they discussed the specialties of the GCC patent office. HE Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al-Thani participated yesterday in the consultative meeting between GCC commerce ministers and representatives of the private sector of the member-states. They discussed means of cooperation between the public and private sector. They also discussed issues concerning the private sector and how to enhance its role in development. (QNA)
