Qatar, Saudi Arabia to Increase Number of Flights and Air Traffic Rights

Doha, May 26 (QNA) - The aviation authorities in the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia held bilateral negotiations in Doha on the sidelines of the Third Middle East Aviation Safety Summit. Talks were chaired on the Qatari side by HE Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Chairman Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey, and on the Saudi side by Deputy to General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA)'s President for Safety and Air Transport Abdulhakim Al-Badr. The two sides reached an agreement reflecting the depth of strong bilateral relations between the two countries, which includes increasing the number of flights between Doha and each of Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam for up to 91 flights weekly along with opening skies between Doha and Medina and Taif to run any number of flights. Under the agreement, Qatar Airways will conduct 14 weekly flights to Saudi interior airports such as: Tabuk, Jizan, Abha, Yanbu, Al Ahsa, Ela and Hail, in addition to increasing the number of cargo flights for up to 14 weekly to major airports in the Saudi Arabia and opening skies between Doha and Dammam airport with fifth freedom for shipping flights. The two Civil Aviation Authorities are scheduled to hold another meeting before the end of the year to update the existing air transport agreement and add new items to facilitate operational matters of national carriers in the two countries.
