Qatar's Ministry of Economy Organizes Workshop on WTO Dispute Settlement System

Doha, September 27 (QNA) - A workshop on "Dispute Settlement System at the World Trade Organization" kicked off in Doha Tuesday with participation of a large number of employees representing several ministries and institutions in the State. The three-day workshop is organized by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in cooperation with the international trade institute of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The workshop is attended by a large number of employees from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Energy and Industry, the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Public Prosecutor, the General Administration of Customs, Qatar University, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Central Bank, Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority, and Qatar Chamber. Experts from the WTO will present several topics during the workshop including the basic elements of the dispute settlement system of WTO, procedures for settlement of commercial disputes, the formation of a dispute settlement body up to settle disputes and other related topics. The workshop will include practical applications and interactive exercises between the experts and participants. The workshop comes within the framework of the efforts made by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in organizing technical cooperation activities aiming at supporting capacity building and deepening the understanding of the government employees for the Doha Round negotiations at the World Trade Organization.
