Renewable Energy Capacity To Double

Tehran, Oct 28, IRNA -- The power generation capacity of Iranian wind and solar power plants will double by March 20, 2015, said the managing director of Iran Power Generation and Transmission Company (TAVANIR). Speaking at the 29th International Electricity Conference Homayoun Haeri said conservatism is the main characteristic of all energy management systems. He listed the reasons for implementing this conservatism in the energy industry is the importance of electricity industry as a vital infrastructure, performance of high-risk operations in the sector and the necessity of synchronizing all components of a national network with a specific frequency. Haeri stressed that the Energy Ministry is required to determine new paradigms and develop new protocols to support domestic electricity generation and distribution, which will accelerate national development and safeguard public interest. He hoped that the Energy Ministry will reduce damage to national electricity network to less than 10 percent to present new paradigms. Haeri noted that some of the positive results of implementing effective management in the power industry include signing a contract on the construction of two gas power plants with a power generation capacity of 7,000 megawatts (MW) and conclusion of a buyback deal to establish 1,000 MW of wind and solar power plants. Stressing that the power industry should boost electricity generation and exports, Haeri said increasing the export of techno-engineering services and goods will accelerate the country’s development and boost employment. “The government will continue to support the private sector to enable it to play a more significant role in the country’s development,” he said./end
