ROTA Launches New Development Programme for Local Youth

Doha, March 26 (QNA) - Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), a core program of the Education Above All (EAA) foundation has launched a new program 'Tomorrow's Leaders' in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar. Aimed at secondary school students in Qatar between the ages of 15-16 years, the program provides a unique opportunity for young people to develop leadership skills and values as well as an understanding of community development issues, and gain experience through the delivery of projects and campaigns that address both local and global issues. Managed by ROTA's National programs Directorate, 'Tomorrow's Leaders' adopts a youth-centred approach whereby young people are encouraged to manage their own learning and development as future leaders and carry out meaningful projects with the support and guidance of certified professional development facilitators. The program aims to equip youth with skills and experiences to enable them to become responsible, capable, and proactive citizens who actively strive to make themselves, their community and the world a better place. Community Development Manager in ROTA Abdulla Al Bakri, , said, "ROTA firmly believes in investing in the leaders of tomorrow and through the 'Tomorrow's Leaders' program, we hope to engage youth as leaders in defining and advocating for innovative solutions to education and development challenges, and more specifically to empower them to serve as development agents and responsible citizens in Qatar and the global community." "Through the training, mentoring and empowerment of 50 young members of the local community, ROTA is actively contributing to the advancement of the human and social development pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030, and creating a network of empowered and highly visible young citizens that can serve as role models and ambassadors for the next generation of young leaders in Qatar," Al Bakri added. Dr Abdulaziz Al Horr, the creator of the 'Tomorrow's Leaders' program curriculum said, it has been designed to help young people in Qatar acquire essential leadership values, skills and competencies that will allow them to become effective 21st century leaders. The program supports ROTA's existing Youth Service Clubs Program and consists of 10 modules; 'Self-management', 'Planning', 'Problem-solving', 'Decision Making', 'Team Building', 'Communication', 'Creative Thinking', 'Critical Thinking', 'Time Management', and 'Money Management'; essentially encouraging youth to set-up their own community development projects and campaigns, and to apply their learning on a continuous basis.
