Rotterdam Port becomes model of Thailand's Laem Chabang Port

BANGKOK, September 15 (TNA) - The Thai government is further developing the country's Laem Chabang Port in eastern seaside Chon Buri Province, using the Rotterdam Port in the Netherlands, the largest seaport in Europe, as its model. Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who oversees economic affairs, told journalists of the information on September 14, saying that the Port of Rotterdam, in which there are established transport facilities suitable for an industrial city, is a major centre for goods exports in Europe. According to the Thai deputy premier, a recent meeting on the development of Laem Chabang Deep Seaport, ordered the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning, under the Ministry of Transport, to conduct a study on the development plan, phase 2, of the Laem Chabang Deep Seaport, using the Port of Rotterdam as its model. The deputy prime minister stressed that the Thai government wants its mega-investment on the Laem Chabang Port development plan, phase 2, to have a most fruitful return in the future. (TNA)
