Rouhani’s Govt Successful In Controlling Inflation: Economist

Isfahan, Sept 25, IRNA – An economist and university professor Saeed Leylaz Wednesday hailed the government of “prudence and hope” for its "success" in controlling inflation and organizing economic affairs. Speaking at Isfahan Chamber of Commerce, he said the Rouhani government could bring inflation down to a single digit with regard to foodstuffs, adding that this was a reality. He said the major challenge of the country at the moment is aging of the population while enough wealth has not been saved for this period, adding that in future the population will be old and poor. Pointing to the negative impacts of global oil price rise, he said the increase may leave negative effects on efforts that have been made for improvement of domestic production and 'resistant economy.' The economist stressed that the best remedy is to minimize the share of oil in Iran’s GDP and called Iran’s oil package an economic firm whose share in the country’s revenue is 20 times more than that of the largest economic firm in the United States. Emphasizing that oil controls 90% of the country’s hard currency revenue, Leylaz said if this firm is disturbed all the structures around it would be disturbed as well./end
