Rupiah Continues To Weaken Against U.S. Dollar

Jakarta, Jan 24 (Antara) - The rupiah value fell against the US dollar in inter-bank transactions in the opening trade on Friday. The Indonesian currency traded at the level of 12,182 per US dollar weakening from the earlier level of 12,163. Chief researcher of Trust Securities, Reza Priyambada, said rupiah followed the regional trend which fell after Chinese industrial slowdown. "Chinese slowdown would have its impact on Indonesia as one of its major trading partners," Rea said. However, the rupiah fall could still be offset with positive domestic economic expectation that keeping the currency from falling deeper. Ruly Arya Wisnubroto, a financial market analyst from Bank Mandiri, said rupiah was still relatively stable. The attentions of the market players are still focused to the Fed`s decision to trim its financial stimulus, Ruly said. He said the Fed`s is not expected to be too aggressive in cutting its asset buying program after US economic growth was not as expected.
