Russia’s Inter RAO starts supplies to Georgia for re-export to Turkey

MOSCOW, December 4. /TASS/. Russian power holding Inter RAO has started supplying electric power to the Georgian power system for further sales in Turkey, the company said on Thursday. The supplies became possible after the launch of the 400-kilovolt Akhaltsikhe-Borchkha power transmission line connecting power systems of Georgia and Turkey. “The volume of power supplies will depend on technical possibilities of the united power system of southern Russian and power system of Georgia in the autumn-winter period and could reach 300 megawatts. The supplies will be made only when they are economically feasible,” Inter RAO said. In January-September, Inter RAO increased power exports to Georgia by 7.9% on the year to 287 million kilowatt-hours. Inter RAO is a diversified power holding managing assets in Russia, Europe, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. The company operates power facilities with a combined capacity of over 34 gigawatts and is also involved in power sales, international trading, engineering, power equipment sales, and management of distribution power grids outside Russia.
